Rail and public transport

SQS is your certification partner for the future of railways and public transport systems.

The range of services includes current norms and standards in the transport- and railway sector, such as ECM, IRIS, ISO/TS 22163, railway welding, as well as industry sector-related auditing of Management System standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 50001.

In doing so, we act throughout Switzerland and also internationally: our areas of work are based on the requirements of the safety authorities and industry associations in Switzerland and abroad, as well as on national and international railway guidelines.

The benefits, the availability and the safety of a transportation means for the carriage of persons or goods depend not only on the quality of the development and manufacturing but also on proper operation and preventive maintenance.

Quality standards for manufacturers and suppliers of rail vehicles

The International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS) and ISO/TS 22163 are used to improve quality across the entire supply chain in the railway segment. It leads to the assurance of competitiveness in the rail vehicle industry and offers improved reliability of quality data on railway components. We publish IRIS certificates in the supplier database of the Union of European Railway Industries (UNIFE) under www.iris-rail.org.

The standard EN 15085 for the welding of rail vehicles and parts is based on the requirements of the welding standard ISO 3834 and regulates the requirements for welding in the manufacturing and maintenance of rolling stock.

Quality standards for maintenance management systems for transport vehicles

In liberalised markets, the operation of rolling stock is regulated by legal and regulatory requirements. The ECM Regulation 2019/779/EU applies to the bodies responsible for the maintenance of rolling stock. The certification to ECM for vehicles is a legal obligation.
